More than 21 months after the government, acknowledging a legal anomaly, took out four northeastern states from the purview of the Delimitation Commission it had set up in 2020 to carry out delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in J&K, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, the Election Commission now has initiated delimitation of seats in Assam based on 2001 Census.
